The document presents the findings from the evaluation of SNEHA’s Adolescent Intervention, implemented between 2022 and 2024 in Mumbai’s M-East ward. The program aimed to improve adolescent nutrition, knowledge of sexual and reproductive health, gender attitudes, and civic engagement through education and community participation.

The intervention enrolled adolescents in two batches and later focused on refresher sessions and leadership development for adolescent change makers (ACMs). The evaluation compared baseline and endline data, revealing significant improvements in multiple areas. Minimum dietary diversity among adolescents increased, indicating better nutritional awareness and consumption patterns. Knowledge of pubertal changes and sexual and reproductive health improved substantially, with more adolescents demonstrating an understanding of contraception, sexually transmitted infections, and pregnancy risks.

The study also noted a shift toward more gender-equitable attitudes, with a greater number of adolescents rejecting harmful gender norms. ACMs played a vital role in peer facilitation and community engagement, leading to increased self-efficacy and active participation in civic initiatives, including sanitation campaigns and community mobilization efforts.

Despite these achievements, the report highlights persistent challenges such as the double burden of malnutrition, with both undernutrition and obesity observed among adolescents. It recommends continued investment in adolescent education, skill-building, and community-driven initiatives to sustain and scale the impact of the intervention. The findings reinforce the importance of adolescent-focused programs in promoting long-term health, gender equity, and community engagement.
