Wahed Shaikh who is now 26 months old when screened in August 2014 weighed 6 kg and 500 gms and his height was 73.5 cms. He was a severe acutely malnourished child. Wahed had recurrent illnesses since birth and was very sick. The community organiser advised and referred the child to the Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre at Sion Hospital for treatment. The doctors recommended Medical Nutrition Therapy.
The neighbours were not in favour of the child being fed MNT and tried to dissuade the mother. However after much persuasion the child was admitted in the Day Care Centre where he was regularly given MNT and complementary feeding.
The child has since completed the MNT course and has now entered the normal grade.
A community organiser has shown that determination and persuasion went a long way in changing the life of this child.
